Missed the car? How to still get the one that got away

You saw it too late. Or you were outbid in the last two minutes. Or you found it a week after it sold. Most people assume that's the end. Often it isn't.

Why a car you missed can come back

How to be first in line

  1. Post the exact car on 2ndBids, using its auction link or VIN, plus a photo.
  2. Set your terms. For example, "I'll reimburse your buyer's fee plus 10%." This shows the winner or seller exactly what they'd receive.
  3. Share your wish page in marque forums and owner clubs, where the car's owner is likely to see it.
  4. Get matched. If that car is listed on 2ndBids because the sale didn't close, the owner is open to offers, or it moved to another site, you're matched first and get an email.

Don't use the auction site's comments or messages to approach a winner or seller about an outside deal. Platforms prohibit it, and some charge a fee for sales that happen off their site.

Common questions

Can I buy a car after I missed the auction?

Sometimes. If the reserve wasn't met, the winner didn't pay, or the owner later decides to sell, the car becomes available again. Posting the exact car on 2ndBids puts you first in line.

How do I contact the buyer of a car that sold at auction?

Don't use the auction site to contact them about an outside deal, because platforms prohibit it. Instead, post a public wish for that exact car that the owner can find, and share it where owners of that model gather.
